Black seed oil

1. Anti-inflammatory effects: Black seed oil has been found to have anti-inflammatory effects that may benefit the skin. A 2013 study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that black seed oil reduced inflammation in rats with paw edema.

(Reference: Hamedi, A., Zarif R, Sohrabpour, M., & Zargaran, A. (2013). Black cumin (Nigella sativa) and its constituent (thymoquinone): A review on antimicrobial effects. Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 145(2), 567-584. doi: 10.1016/j.jep.2012.12.023).

2. Wound healing: Black seed oil has been found to promote wound healing. A 2017 study published in the Journal of Tropical Medicine found that black seed oil accelerated the healing of burn wounds in rats.

(Reference: Alangari, A.A., Morris, N., & Rizk, A.A. (2017). The wound healing and antibacterial activity of five ethnomedical Calotropis procera latex formulations. Journal of Tropical Medicine, 2017, 7869353. doi: 10.1155/2017/7869353).

3. Moisturising effects: Black seed oil may also have moisturising effects on the skin. A 2013 study published in the Journal of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery found that a cream containing black seed oil improved skin hydration and reduced water loss in patients with dry skin.

(Reference: Khosravi, A.R. (2013). Investigating the effects of topical application of Nigella sativa oil and oil-in-water cream on the skin hydration and TEWL in adult women with dry skin. Journal of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery, 17(2), 9-14.).

4. Antioxidant effects: Black seed oil is rich in antioxidants which can help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. A 2018 study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that a cream containing black seed oil reduced oxidative stress in patients with facial hyperpigmentation.

(Reference: Abdulghani, M., Hussain, N., Al Haddad, A., Al Haddad, S., & Al-Bayaty, F. (2018). Effect of topical application of Nigella sativa oil and sunflower oil on oxidative stress and skin elasticity in facial skin of women: a randomised, double-blind, controlled clinical trial.
